TAMPA, Florida — Police fatally shot a pitbull and wounded another after they had broken loose from a yard and viciously killed a neighbor’s poodle as it was being walked by its owner.
Tampa police say that Keithroy George was walking his dog, Simba, early Monday morning, when the two pitbulls shot out of nowhere and attacked his dog.
He wasn’t hurt, but Simba was dragged off by the other two dogs who proceeded to start to to eat the slain pooch.
When officers arrived, the dogs turned on then, prompting one to open fire. One dog, named White Boy, was killed. The other, named Tito, was wounded, police said.
George said that the dogs had gone after him before.
“Those dogs were vicious, they are just vicious dogs. I really am hurt. I lost Simba. He was a part of the family and I am going to miss him,” he told WTVT-TV.
Police and animal control officers are determining whether charges will be filed against the owner of the pitbulls.
