WILLIAMS, California — A family mourning the loss of one daughter were struck by tragedy once again when their other daughter disappeared the day after her sister was killed in a car wreck, authorities said.
Karen Garcia, 21, was last seen in Colusa on Monday when she left to go shopping ahead of a vigil to be held that evening for her younger sister, Jessica, 19, who died the day before in a fiery wrong-way wreck that killed six people.
When Karen failed to show up for her sister’s vigil, the family grew worried and called her neighbor, Linda Quintero, to ask if she knew where she was. Quintero checked Garcia’s apartment and found her purse containing her driver’s license, bank card and some cash.
“After the accident, she was super distraught, super stressed out,” Quintero told the Sacramento Bee.
Worry grew to panic when Garcia failed to show up for work the following day.
“That’s not like her … she never misses work,” said Salvador Garcia, who has a 2-year-old daughter with Karen.
Police say they have been interviewing Garcia’s friends and family to try to piece together the days before she disappeared. They have also been searching for her car, a blue Honda accord, in and around neighboring communities.
