LEON TOWNSHIP, Minnesota — A suspected drunk driver has been arrested for allegedly slamming his car into an Amish buggy, killing a woman and seriously injuring her brother.
The Minnesota State Patrol says Christopher K. Baumann, 27, of Nevis, Minn., hit the buggy from behind in the northwestern part of the state early Saturday evening. Authorities suspect Baumann was drinking before the crash, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported.
Elsie Yoder, 23, of nearby Clearbrook, was rushed to a hospital in Fargo, North Dakota, but later died. Her brother, 27-year-old Mervin Yoder, who was driving the buggy, suffered less severe injuries and is expected to live.
Baumann is being held on suspicion of criminal vehicular operation, a felony, but face an upgraded charge of criminal vehicular homicide.
