MENASHA, Wisconsin — Two Wisconsin cops were given what hell of a start to the New Year by a knucklehead reveler who leaped headlong into the windshield of their patrol car, caving in the glass but walking away unscathed.
The Menasha police department said the man, identified as Cody James Romano, 25, was dead drunk when he took a running start at the stopped police cruiser just past midnight on New Year’s before doing a belly-flop into the windshield.
“As the officer saw him, down the road from him, he stopped and turned on his spotlight, was beginning to exit his vehicle to make contact and as the video shows, the man came running right at the squad car and impacted the windshield,” Police Chief Tim Styka told WBAY-TV.
He then jumped up on the roof of the car before getting into a tussle with officers. After being taken into custody, Romano calmed down and admitted he had drank too much and had grown upset at the party.
Romano and one of the officers were treated and released from a local hospital. Romano was then booked into the Winnebago County Jail on multiple charges.
“A reminder that if you drink, please do so responsibly,” police said.
