NAPLES, Florida — Here’s a man who isn’t going to let a natural disaster get in the way of a good time.
Florida police say they were shocked when a man who flagged down a police car during the evacuation of an area due to wildfires then pulled out a bag of cocaine and took a bump as he chatted with deputies.
The Collier County Sheriff’s office says they encountered Joshua Benz, 25, on Friday as he walked down the middle of a road wearing jeans and no shirt sand waved at a passing patrol car, WBBH-TV reported.
As the officers explained to him the details of the evacuation, they say Benz calmly whipped out a bag of coke and took a hit right in front of them.
Perhaps realizing the hot water he was now in, cops say Benz then turned around and placed his hands behind his back in order to be cuffed. But they say he kept the bag of coke in his hand the whole time.
He was charged with possession of cocaine and is being held on $5,000 bond. Benz has at least four prior arrests for drug possession and failing to pay child support.
