WILDWOOD, Florida — A man dumped an injured woman in bushes on the side of a road after she fell off the golf cart he was driving, and then fled the scene without calling for help because he was afraid of getting charged with drunk driving, police said.
Timothy Jacob Foxworth, 36, of North Carolina was visiting his parents in Florida and had taken his father’s golf cart to go to a nearby bar, Wildwood police said.
He later left the bar with a 51-year-old woman and as he was driving with her along a state road, she fell off the cart, WKMG-TV reported.
The woman suffered a life-threatening injury and was unable to stand up or walk, but instead of calling for help, police say Foxworth dragged her into the bushes along the median and drove off.
Fortunately for the woman, witnesses spotted the incident and called for help. Police credited their action with greatly increasing “the victim’s chances of survival.”
Cops say they later found Foxworth driving the golf cart, wearing a shirt smeared with blood. They say he told officers that he had panicked because had had been driving drunk.
He was charged with DUI and hit and run. Foxworth was released on $25,000 bond.
