GAINESVILLE, Florida — He was on a mission from God.
A 20 year-old Florida man was busted after stealing a police cruiser from the Gainesville Regional Airport, later telling cops he did it because he was on a “spiritual journey” and needed to get home.
Video surveillance footage showed Duncan Smith tearing out of the airport in the Alachua County Sheriff’s office vehicle last Thursday evening, WGFL-TV reported.
Two hours later, deputies detected that Smith had used a credit card that was in the stolen car in nearby Columbia County.
They later caught up with him in Alachua County and arrested him. Deputies say Smith confessed to stealing the cruiser because he was on a “spiritual journey” and needed to find a way home.
He was charged with burglary, larceny and vehicular theft.
