JACKSONVILLE, Florida — Talk about adding insult to injury.
A Florida man who accidentally shot himself in the penois after sitting on a gun now faces three years in jail for having the firearm in the first place.
Jacksonville police say Cedrick Jelks, 38, was behind the wheel of his parked Nissan Altima on Friday when the gun went off, striking his penis.
Jelks then ran back into his home in a panic and when he saw where the bullet had struck, told his girlfriend to call for help. He was rushed to a local hospital where he underwent surgery.
But making matters worse for Jelks is the fact that he pleaded guilty in 2004 to cocaine possession. Even though he only served five days behind bars, Jelks is a convicted felon and by law cannot possess a firearm.
If police choose to slap him with a gun charge, Jelks could face up to three years in prison for having the handgun.
