GAINESVILLE, Florida — A Florida man is charged with stealing a apartment building security guard’s dog and then coming back and stabbing him in the neck for his troubles.
Gainesville police say Zain Zamorano, 32, had attempted to buy Jose Amaya’s white pitbull as he was working a shift at the building on Monday. Amaya, 37, told Zamorano he wasn’t interested, so he then walked off with the pooch.
Amaya immediately called police but by the time they arrived, Zamorano was gone.
He returned a few hours later and called Amaya out to speak to him as he stood by his bicycle, according to the arrest report. The two men argued and Zamorano is charged with plunging a blade into Amaya’s neck and arm.
When police arrived, they found Amaya bleeding down the side of his neck and chest. Paramedics on scene said the slash wound missed Amaya’s vital carotid artery by no more than half-an-inch, the report said.
Zamorano was detained at the scene, telling cops “he couldn’t believe he was going to jail for nothing,” and claiming that Amaya had tried to stab him and the knife was actually the security guard’s.
He was charged with aggravated battery and held on $50,000 bond.
