WEST PALM BEACH, Florida — Some people just make really poor choices in life.
Like one Florida mugger, who tried to rob a man in broad daylight on a street in West Palm Beach and learned the hard way that his target was a retired MMA fighter and an instructor at Ultima Fitness MMA.
“When he tried to attack me, then I put him down and this is where I finally put him down until police got here,” Jose Cortes told the Orlando Sentinel.
Cortes said he was walking along, minding his own business, when the man tried to choke him from behind.
“He came from behind me… I just kinda held his wrist and put him down,” he said.
Once the wannabe thief discovered what he had gotten himself into, he gave up and lay there until police arrived.
“I said, ‘It’s OK guys, I’m a pro fighter.’ Then he gave up,” Cortes said.
According to cops, the man had just robbed a nearby restaurant. Cortes says he was glad the man targeted him, because most others wouldn’t have been as lucky.
“Be alert because this could happen to anybody that is not as skilled as me,” he said.
