MINNEAPOLIS — It was pretty harsh punishment for being a lousy guest.
A Minnesota woman has been charged with fatally stabbing a Thanksgiving guest who lit up a crack pipe during dinner but didn’t bother to ask or offer to share, authorities said.
Anenia Marie Hare, 57, told cops she had invited 69-year-old Edward Caliph to her house for dinner, but “before they started to eat, she looked over and saw the victim lighting up a crack pipe,” the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported, citing the criminal complaint.
Hare said she was infuriated because Caliph didn’t ask her if he could light up in her house and didn’t offer any of the drug to her, police said.
She then grabbed a butcher’s knife in one hand and a TV antenna in another began screaming that he couldn’t leave, the complaint said. He called for neighbors to call 911 and then broke a window with a vacuum cleaner.
The two struggled and Hare told cops she fell on top of Caliph as he tried to get the knife away from her.
He then stopped moving and “started snoring.”
“I just grabbed him by the front and he went down. To me it just felt like I put him in a sleeper hold or something,” she told cops.
The coroner ruled that Caliph’s died due to homicidal violence. Hare has been charged with second-degree murder.
