HUNTINGTON, New York — A dirtbag son tried to fake his own kidnapping in an effort to squeeze his long-suffering mother out of cash, police said.
Police in New York’s Nassau County say 31-year-old Michael Sorbera began bombarding his 62-year-old mother with texts on Friday saying he was in trouble.
She then got a call from a man whose voice she did not recognize, demanding she wire cash through Western Union, or else Sorbera would get hurt, cops told CBS New York. The purported kidnapper even put Sorbera on the phone, who begged his mother to pony up the money.
But instead of sending the money, after Sorbera’s mother got off the phone, she called police.
Sorbera was later tracked him back to his home in Huntington where he was arrested for second degree grand larceny and fourth degree conspiracy and held on $10,000 bond.
