JACKSON TOWNSHIP, Indiana — A man determined to get away from cops at all costs, stole two police cars with his 7-month-old baby in tow, leading officers on a wild chase through northern Indiana.
The Porter County Sheriff’s office said 26-year-old Stacey Groves, of Benton Harbor, Michigan, managed to get behind the wheel of an unmarked patrol car during a traffic stop and take off with his son.
State Troopers gave chase and Groves led them on a high speed chase, weaving through traffic and tearing through a cow fence down a small county road.
Groves eventually abandoned the vehicle, taking his son with him to a nearby home. He then forced his way inside, handed the resident the child and demanded they help him and the child.
The homeowner somehow managed to call police, but when officers responded, Groves allegedly hopped out of a window into the yard and walked off with a second police car.
Groves eventually abandoned the second car as well. A helicopter crew eventually caught up with Groves and he was charged with a multitude of criminal counts. The boy was given over to its mother.
