PHILADELPHIA — The City of Brotherly Love kicked off the Trump presidency in an unfriendly way after vandals spray-painted racist and anti-Semitic graffiti around town.
Philadelphia police reported finding messages saying “Sieg Heil” and depicting swastikas next to Trump’s name on one downtown storefront.
In another part of town, a woman’s white SUV was defaced with graffiti o Trump’s name and the message “Black Bitch.”
Mayor Jim Kenney said the vandalism “must be condemned in the strongest possible terms.”
“In the wake of the election, Philadelphians must work tirelessly to bridge the divides that have plagued this nation for decades,” he said in a statement, according to Philly.com
The Anti-Defamation League said the Nazi-themed graffiti was particularly troubling as it occurred on the 78th anniversary of Kristallnacht, or the “Night of Broken Glass” pogrom that started the Holocaust.
“We are horrified,” said Nancy K. Baron-Baer, the ADL’s regional director. “While we view this as an isolated incident, we cannot allow this behavior to become routine.”
