MIAMI — A charter fishing boat captain reeled in the biggest score of his life, when he hooked a yellow bundle containing a kilo of cocaine.
Mark Quartiano — a fishing boat captain famous on Instagram as Mark the Shark — was leading a group of University of Miami students on a fishing trip this week, when they spotted the bundle bobbing in the water.
Quartiano’s crew used nets to land the catch, and quickly discovered they had something with much higher street value than the biggest swordfish on their hands.
“Lo and behold, it was one of those square grouper,” Qaurtiano told WPLG-TV.
The crew turned the drugs over to the coast guard when they returned to shore.
Quartiano, who normally leads anglers on trips to catch shark and other big game fish, says he has stumbled upon bales of marijuana in the past — he told the Miami Herald he even helped move a few around back in the 1970s — but had never found cocaine out at sea.
