COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado — A Colorado cop racing to the scene of an accident was startled when a raccoon leaped onto his windshield and hitched a ride.
The nocturnal mammal made a sudden appearance late Wednesday as Colorado Springs Police Officer Christopher Frabbiele drove a police van to a car crash scene.
The animal then splayed out on the windshield, clinging to the wiper blades as Frabbiele drove. The officer then slowly pulled over and when he stopped, the woodland creature decided he’d gone far enough and hopped back down onto the road.
“How in the world did that raccoon hop on?” department spokesman Lt. Howard Black commented to the Denver Post. “It’s safe to say a raccoon hopping is not a common occurrence.”
Raccoons are fairly common creatures in the area of Colorado Springs, but rarely hitchhike their way across town.
